OUR STORY
The Sentimentalist is owned by a family of entrepreneurs and operated by a mother-daughter duo with a shared passion for finer fashion, Southern service, and the great city of Atlanta.
Gabi Lee learned from bridal fashion’s best on the West Coast and brought a cooler collective of indie designers home to Georgia a decade ago. With a pedigree in the service industry and another life as a dancer, Gabi is equal parts creative director and glorified food runner, with a weird passion for business systems and pop-opera singer, Sarah Brightman. You can find her answering emails at many an East Atlanta dive or involved in the city’s social justice initiatives.
Krista McMichen is an RN with a former life spent with the city’s NICU babies. She has an impeccable wardrobe and a reputation as everyone’s favorite style setter with manners to match. As a fifth generation Atlanta native, she has a rich history in the city’s Westside business district, and currently serves on the Atlanta Beltline Special Service District Stakeholder’s Advisory Board. She loves all things British, but especially tea time and can be found reading on her Buckhead porch when she isn’t slaying small business accounting.
OUR MISSION
Our Mission is to lead the industry in smart sales and kind service — and to raise the standards for inclusion and accessibility in bridal.
To build a space that is attainable and inspirational, and to empower and educate an enthusiastic staff — making it a happy place to work and shop.
To provide a better experience and more ethical options for a broader range of brides, with service that is thoughtful and attentive from sales to systems.
To honor our city and make each other proud, change the game for good, and get a lot of people to feel pretty.
Our Goal, during your visit, is to help you find or create your dream look without pressure or judgment and to problem-solve all your alternative or creative bridal fashion needs — and to serve you with kindness and style even if your purchase won’t be with us.
Our Team
OUR COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVITY
We serve all bodies and brides wanting to wear a wedding gown. We prioritize the safety and comfort of our female, non-binary, and trans clients. We are a welcoming space for queer brides and guests, respect your pronouns, and love your families of all kinds.
We believe love is love and support marriage equality for all.
We do not tolerate any form of racism, homophobia or transphobia from guests or staff alike and reserve the right to refuse service to any individuals for any reason we see fit.
Body Shaming, abusive and harmful language, or diva behavior just won’t be tolerated here. We are a safe space for brides of all kinds and often for those who feel uncomfortable or nervous about this process. Disruptive or actin-ugly patrons will be removed.
OUR COMMITMENT TO BLACK LIVES
AND BLACK BRIDES
We are committed to promoting radical inclusivity in the bridal industry and to improving the experience of black brides and staff in our small business. This includes diverse hiring practices, an increase in black-owned designs on the dress racks, partnerships with more of Atlanta’s vendors and bridal businesses of color, and setting a strict diversity standard for collaborations and representation in marketing.
We are committed to anti-racism, believe Black Lives Matter, and support the pursuit for racial justice.
